During inhalation (breathing in) a valve opens allowing you to breathe in freely. When exhaling (breathing out) the valve closes, redirecting your breath out two small air channels.
This increases the pressure in the airway and then maintains this increase in pressure that helps to keep the airway open until the start of the next breath.
PROVENT can be used to treat Mild, Moderate and Severe Sleep Apnoea. It is a therapy that should be discussed with your Doctor before using, especially if you are a long term CPAP user.
PROVENT has been a really effective therapy for our patients that travel to places that don’t have electricity or where packing space is at a premium. You can fit a fortnight worth of PROVENT in your top pocket.
As with other Medical therapies, PROVENT will take a period of adjustment. To get around this, PROVENT have a starter pack to help ease you into the therapy. By reducing the resistance on the exhale in the first few nights, it allows you to ease into the therapy. It can take over a week to get used to PROVENT therapy, so it is important to be persistent.
When using PROVENT you may notice that there are vibrations when you talk. You will also notice that it is harder to exhale. Both of these things are normal and things you will adjust too. We recommend putting PROVENT on during the day in the early stages of usage to allow you time to get used to it, when the pressure of falling asleep is not there.
PROVENT can be used as a frontline therapy for sleep apnoea. Typical use in our clinic has been for travel. Patients will use their CPAP device at home then pack the PROVENT for use when they are out on the road.
We recommend trialling PROVENT at home before you go away. Like any therapy, there is not a 100% success rate. The last thing we want is for you to go away without trialling PROVENT and find you cannot use it once away.
