Maintaining your CPAP equipment is important for longevity of your equipment and also effectiveness of treatment. Each morning, we recommend wiping your CPAP mask off with the ResMed CPAP Mask Wipes. However, every fortnight, we recommend doing a more significant clean of your CPAP equipment.

We’ll start with the filter. Every two weeks, we recommend taking this out and giving it a flick. Flicking it will remove any dust, preventing that from getting into the motor. We recommend changing your filter every three months. To replace your CPAP machine filter, Click here.

How to clean your CPAP Mask at home

With the mask, we recommend giving it a soak in warm, soapy water. You can leave the headgear on if you like, but you can also put that into your washing machine. I recommend finding the dirty bits and making sure you give them a good little wipe out and then let it soak for a good five minutes. Once the mask has soaked for five minutes, we recommend rinsing it with fresh water, and then allowing it to air dry out of direct sunlight.

How to clean your heated tube

Next up, we’ll clean the heated tube. A common question we are asked is whether or not we can get the electrical component of the tube wet. The answer to that is yes you can. Just like the mask, give the tube a good soaking. Also get some water to pass through the tube. On top of this, you may wish to use a tube brush to help clean the inside of the tubing.

After this, simply rinse off the tube. Don’t forget to run some water through the tube, and once you’ve given it a good soak, allow it to air dry out of direct sunlight.

Each morning, we recommend emptying your humidifier tub and giving it a wipe out. Again, at least every fortnight, we recommend giving your humidifier tub a thorough clean. In our clinic, we use white vinegar in the humidifier tubs to clean the stainless steel. Another option available to you is to use your dishwasher at home.
